40 years ago today in Sports Illustrated...

First, a non-filtered version of an alternate of the Sports Illustrated shot...
...then other shots from the session...
...including another alternate for the shot they did use...
...plus...
Exactly 40 years ago today, Sports Illustrated published their (to date) only nude photo*, featuring 19-year old, two-time (1968 & 1972) American Olympic gymnast Cathleen Roxanne Rigby in an article entitled "Sugar and Spice and Iron"!
These small versions of unfiltered, never-published pix are from the same studio session that produced the filtered photo we use for our header (which is also the picture that caused so much controversy in the SI article).
When I can figure out a way to exhibit the hi-rez files without being ripped-off, I'll post them.
*Body Paint doesn't count.

  1. I was in sixth grade when the issue came out and Cathy's was the first nude photo of a girl I'd ever seen! Needless to say, it made a lasting impression and from that day on, I wanted to be a photographer (for obvious reasons). To this day, I still have a weakness for petite blonde gymnasts with amazing bodies.

Too bad there's not some way to make an art print of the unfiltered photo. I'd love to hang it up in my studio (and yes, I did become a photographer).

  2. The one thing I remember about the article, other than that wonderfully muscular but feminine anatomy, was the statement to the affect that graceful movements of gymnastics are conducive to the graceful curves of the nude female body and should be done that way. A more perfect example of such a perfect form to prove such a point would be hard to find. She had much to be proud of.

  3. What do you mean without getting ripped off? Did you take the pictures?

    1. If I posted hi-rez, someone would output them and sell them.
My intent is to show them to the world...for free.

  4. NOW THAT THE PHOTOS HAVE "SURFACED", (BUT WEREN'T A SECRET TO BEGIN WITH, AS THEY WERE PUBLISHED IN SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, BACK IN THE EARLY 70'S), I WONDER IF MS. RIGBY WILL TAKE ANY LEGAL ACTION TO PREVENT ANY OF THE IMAGES BEGIN PUBLISHED ANYWHERE ON THE INTERNET, OR HAVE HER ATTORNEY TO REQUEST THAT ANYONE POSTING SUCH IMAGES OF HER ON A BLOG AND OR NUDE CELEBRITY WEBSITE TO REMOVE THEM?....... WE'LL SEE.... (THOUGH I DON'T KNOW WHY SHE'D FEEL OFFENDED, AS SHE'S STILL THAT BEAUTIFUL AND HOT, EVEN TO THIS DAY)........
